I've seen an article making the rounds,asking why there isn't any black players in Argentina's soccer team. It came as a surprise to us, as a country, to learn we are by any stretch of the imagination 'white'. The vast majority of the country is what you would call 'mixed race', and 'negro' (blackie) is a common term we use to call each other. We are, in truth, mostly an 'ambiguously brown' nation. But since we don't neatly fit in the narrow black or white category of most racist people (of any skin colour), there must be something wrong with us. What this is, as always, is a failure to consider your part of the world and its circumstances are not universal. But I don't think that smug navel-gazing will end anytime soon. Or ever.

Yeah, WW 1984 was terrible horrible no good (except for the Linda Carter cameo), but it was no worse than Thor 2, and definitely no worse than Iron Man 2, so the news hold no water in the vein of 'let's prevent more horribleness'. Just, keep Patty Jenkins away from the script and go on.

I'm totally watching Morbius and the new Fantastic Beasts. They'll probably be Very Bad, but Madds Mikkelsen as Grindelward is my dream casting, so I cannot not watch. And as for Matt Smith (my reason for watching Morbius, besides a fondness for comics-Morbius back when he was part of the Midnight Sons, which doesn't really matters since I'm sure movie Morbius doesn't resemble him in the slightest), I don't like him enough to watch whatever many seasons he appeared in The Crown, but an hour and a half cheesy horror movie? I'm in.

It wanted so bad to be Lovecraft Country and pissed out of the pot so thoroughly. It not only did unintentionally poorly in the racial commentary (as did Us, with its coded Mighty Whitey narrative), but effed up the 1992 film. It was better than the original's sequels, of course, but that's not saying much.

Because of Simon Pegg, and he's blink-and-you-missed-it there. But, it wasn't so bad as I was bracing for! Don't get me wrong, the female characters are those of a Kripke show, as in they take a back seat to the decidedly less interesting male ones, and it starts with a blatant fridging purely for manpain. Having said that, it's very watchable (mostly because of the cast), and the characters, even the minor ones, have enough layers to avoid being uninteresting. Will cautiously try a second season if it gets made.
